Mary Jo Brice

Mary Jo Cappleman Brice, 76, a resident of the Houston area for 46 years, died in Katy, Texas, August 9, 2012 of lung cancer.

Mrs. Brice volunteered in several area civic organizations, including the Kappa Alpha Theta Houston Alumnae Chapter and Daughter of the Republic of Texas. She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Katy.

She was past president of the Houston A&M Mother’s Club and past chairman of the Houston Theta Charity Antiques Show. She was president of the Westchester High School Wranglerettes Booster Club in 1978 and in the early 1980’s was active in the Texas Appaloosa Club. She was a past member of the Houston Junior Forum. She enjoyed playing bridge, gardening and traveling

Mrs. Brice was born in Fort Worth and was raised in La Marque, Texas, where she was a graduate of La Marque High School in 1954. She attended Texas Tech University and married 1957. She accompanied her husband during his three years service in the Navy and lived in Lubbock and Dallas before moving to Houston in 1966.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Don Brice of Katy; a daughter, Kimberly Lawrence and her husband Dennis of Katy; a son, Dr. Neel Brice and his wife Suzanne of Katy; and three grandchildren, Jennifer Lawrence, Matthew Brice and Kyle Brice of Katy.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 12, 2012, at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel, in Katy. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 12, 2012, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, in Katy, with The Reverend Chris Duncan officiating. Graveside services will be held immediately after the service at Memorial Oaks Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 5373 Franz Road, Katy, Texas 77493.
